Brief description of project

Curated together with interior designer, Julia Day of Generation, the ethos of the Design Joburg 2017 stand was to successfully communicate a design that was inspired by the crafting of ideas and the curation and execution thereof.

“The Sample Library” implied a physical place, an intimate creative environment in which people could imagine themselves. “The Sample Library” was an installation filled with things that delighted the team, a real interaction which created an emotional, as well as physical experience of beauty. The stand reflected the architect’s process in creativity- a point to start from in which inspiration is taken from natural products like wood, steel, leather and clay.

The project team aimed at a design that was inspired by the crafting of ideas and the celebration of handmade bespoke items. The aesthetic of the design for the show was realised as a symbiotic space that celebrated the unique materials and objects within it, where visitors were enveloped in an authentic interpretation of an architect’s sample library.
