Brief description of project
Located on a recently sub-divided pan-handle, the residence was a new build with a clear client brief designed to open up to the north and sensitively designed landscape. This modern approach to the traditional concept of a conservatory aimed to embrace the idea of outdoor-indoor living.
The garden setting was an important aspect as the client wanted to take full advantage of the changing of seasons within a modern garden pavilion. The glass box can open up in summer and in winter be closed with a wood burning fireplace. The same language of metal and glass screen panels was used at the entrance door of the house, as well as the entrance hall. It is used as a connecting device between the different blocks and celebrates the transparency of glass. This gives you a glimpse of the lane of jacarandas that line the property and makes the most of Highveld thunderstorms the client loves so.
