Brief description of project

Overlooking the jacarandas of the exclusive Waterkloof neighbourhood, the property was purchased with a typical single story residence nestled against the ridge.

The client’s brief was to optimise the views and maximise the area of the existing property. The decision was made to demolish the existing house and in doing so create a platform for the new residence. The challenge arose with the excavations resulting in a dramatic 70m fall fully acknowledging the vistas to the north.

The design aim was to create a warm, family home where the client could unwind, away from her high-powered executive environment – a home that focused on traditional and high-quality craftsmanship reminiscent of buildings of old. The brief was realised in the bespoke trusses using imported French oak with a keen attention to detail evident throughout the residence.

The covered terrace, with the backdrop of the Union Buildings, juxtaposed with a beautiful heritage tree, was a critical aspect in the overall brief and transforms this home into an entertainer’s dream.
