This new house in a residential complex in Johannesburg close to the Sandton CBD has private access to the adjacent Inanda Polo Club precinct. The layout consists of three evenly spaced, sleek, contemporary barn-like structures connected by a floating ramp that serves as the main circulation spine. This configuration creates a series of interconnected indoor and outdoor areas that maximise the available space on this densely designed site. The interiors open onto the courtyards and covered terraces via large glass panels, doors, windows and cavity sliders. An underground garage and ancillary spaces, including a wine cellar, free up additional space. The strong linear architectural elements are balanced with two silos and timber-clad boxes clipped onto the main façade. Glazed gable ends allow natural light into the interiors, which are softened with warm, natural, textured wooden floors and cladding. Landscaping by Gregory Mark Landscapes and interior design by Julia Day Interiors.
